Dunhill and O’Brien made the short film Bad Idea for the Bad Ideas Collective, a project initially led by Kristaps Ancans and Alex Shady during the lockdown in 2020.
The film turns its attention to some of the less publicly acknowledged aspects of collaborative practice namely, disagreement, competition, jealousy, compromise and the uncomfortable suspicion that the other person’s idea may actually be better than one’s own. Using humour and self-scrutiny, Bad Idea unpicks some of the awkward dynamics of working as an artist duo and the persistent question of where one person’s thinking ends and the other’s begins.
